The best Mixamo alternatives in 2026
Mixamo still works, but it has barely changed in years. If you have hit its limits (humanoids only, no text-to-motion, occasional outages, an Adobe ID requirement), here is what to use instead.

Humanoid-only rigging
Mixamo rejects creatures, props, and anything without two arms and two legs.
No new motion
The library is fixed. You cannot describe a motion you need.
Unmaintained
No new rig types or features, and outages such as the one in June 2025.
Why people look for a Mixamo alternative
Mixamo made auto-rigging mainstream, and its library of motion-captured clips is still useful. But Adobe stopped actively developing it years ago. The auto-rigger only accepts humanoid meshes, the animation library never grows, and you cannot generate a motion that is not already in it. It also requires an Adobe ID, which some users cannot get.
1. Nira: best overall Mixamo alternative
Nira covers everything Mixamo does and fills its gaps. It auto-rigs humanoids and non-humanoids (quadrupeds, birds, dragons, and more), generates new motion from text instead of limiting you to a fixed library, retargets clips without manual bone mapping, and lets you edit the result on a timeline. It runs in the browser, accepts GLB, GLTF, FBX, DAE, and ZIP uploads, and exports GLB or GLTF.
Where Mixamo still wins: it is completely free, and it exports FBX, which some older pipelines prefer.
2. Cascadeur: best if you want to animate by hand
Cascadeur includes Quick Rigging and AI-assisted posing, so it suits people who want to keyframe their own animation with AI help rather than pick from a library. It is a desktop app.
3. DeepMotion: best if you can act it out
If the motion you need is not in Mixamo's library, DeepMotion's Animate 3D can capture it from a video of you performing it, and SayMotion can generate it from text.
4. Blender with Rigify: best free manual option
Blender's Rigify add-on generates a full control rig from a meta-rig you fit to your character. It is free and powerful, but it is manual: you still place the bones and fix the skin weights yourself, and there is no motion library.
Moving from Mixamo to Nira
- Upload the same mesh you would have sent to Mixamo. GLB, FBX, GLTF, and DAE all work.
- Ask Nira to rig it, or pick a skeleton type if it is not a humanoid.
- Describe the motion you need, or apply an animation pack for a full move set.
- Export GLB for Unity, Unreal, Godot, Roblox, or Blender.

Frequently asked questions
Is Mixamo being discontinued?
Adobe has said Mixamo will stay free, but it is not actively developed: no new animations or rig types have been added in years, and the service has had multi-day outages.
What is the best free alternative to Mixamo?
Nira is free for posing, keyframing, and GLB export, and its 50 signup tokens cover an AI auto-rig and your first generated clips. Blender's Rigify is free but fully manual.
Can a Mixamo alternative rig animals?
Nira can. It rigs quadrupeds, birds, and dragons, which Mixamo cannot.
Bring your character to life
Upload a mesh and Nira rigs it, animates it, and exports it. New accounts start with 50 free tokens.
